Black in Space: Breaking the Color Barrier (2020)

America's experiences during the Civil Rights Movement and the Space Race are well documented. However, few know about the moment these two worlds collided, when the White House and NASA scrambled to put the first black astronaut into orbit. This is the untold story of the decades-long battle between the U.S. and the Soviet Union to be the first superpower to bring diversity to the skies, told by the black astronauts and their families, who were part of this little known chapter of the Cold War.

Weinigen weten echter over het moment waarop deze twee werelden met elkaar botsten, toen het Witte Huis en NASA zich haastten om de eerste zwarte astronaut in een baan om de aarde te brengen. Dit is het onbekende verhaal van de decennialange strijd tussen de VS en de Sovjet-Unie om de eerste supermacht te worden die diversiteit in het luchtruim bracht, verteld door de zwarte astronauten en hun families, die deel uitmaakten van dit weinig bekende hoofdstuk van de Koude Oorlog.

Lata 50. zapisały się w historii świata jako początek rywalizacji w kosmosie pomiędzy Związkiem Radzieckim a Stanami Zjednoczonymi. Podbój przestrzeni pozaziemskiej stał się częścią zimnej wojny. Rosjanie wystrzelili sztucznego satelitę Sputnik 1, ale nie był to koniec stawianych sobie wyzwań. Ścigano się m.in. o pierwsze wysłanie w kosmos zwierzęcia i człowieka oraz lądowanie na Księżycu. Astronautom bardzo zależało na udziale w tych wyprawach. Problemem okazywał się jednak rasizm, który utrudniał i czasem nawet uniemożliwiał Afroamerykanom uczestnictwo w kosmicznych misjach.
