Queen Lear (2019)

Shakespeare's 'King Lear' travelling on the dusty and risky roads to the remotest forgotten villages in the mountains of Turkey where even drinking water can hardly reach, turns delicately into 'Queen Lear' in the hands of a peasant-women theatre group. In the early 2000s, a handful of peasant women from the mountains of southern Turkey formed a theater group, which later became the subject of the documentary, The Play. The women acted out their own life stories in the village, and the play changed their lives. Now, they take to the road with an adaptation of Shakespeare's King Lear, traveling the dusty, dangerous roads to the farthest-flung mountain villages where there isn't even running water. On the road, their lives merge with the world of King Lear and become bound up with "the good and the bad", "the young and the old", "the rich and the poor", "the honest and the dishonest" of the play.

Toroslar'da bir avuç köylü kadın, 2000'li yılların başında bir araya gelerek bir tiyatro topluluğu kurar. Arslanköy Tiyatro Ekibi adını verdikleri topluluk sayesinde hayatları değişen kadınlar, yaşamlarını sahneye taşımaya başlar. Bu sefer kendilerine farklı bir amaç edinen kadınlar, Shakespeare'in Kral Lear oyununu ücra dağ köylerinde sahnelemeyi planlar. Suyun bile zor ulaştığı köylerde oyun sergilemek için yola koyulan kadınların dünyası bu süreçte Kral Lear'ın dünyası ile iç içe geçer.

Il y a seize ans, une poignée de paysannes des montagnes du sud de la Turquie avaient formé une troupe de théâtre, qui est devenue plus tard l’objet du documentaire La Pièce de Pelin Esmer. Ces femmes avaient mis en scène leurs propres histoires et cette expérience avait changé leur vie. Maintenant, elles prennent de nouveau la route avec une adaptation du Roi Lear de Shakespeare, voyageant sur les routes poussiéreuses et risquées vers des villages reculés et oubliés dans les montagnes de Turquie, qui n’ont parfois même pas d'eau potable. La pièce devient petit à petit La Reine Lear.

Zestien jaar geleden vormde een handvol boerenvrouwen uit de bergen van Zuid-Turkije een theatergezelschap, dat later het onderwerp werd van de documentaire The Play van Pelin Esmer. Deze vrouwen hadden hun eigen verhalen nagespeeld en deze ervaring had hun leven veranderd. Nu gaan ze weer op pad met een bewerking van Shakespeares King Lear, waarbij ze over stoffige en risicovolle wegen reizen naar afgelegen, vergeten dorpen in de bergen van Turkije, die soms niet eens over schoon water beschikken. Het stuk wordt geleidelijk Queen Lear.
