Jerzy Hoffman

Jerzy Julian Hoffman is a Polish film director and screenwriter. Hoffman was born to Jewish parents Zygmunt Hoffman and Maria Schmelkes. His 1965 film Three Steps on Earth was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Silver Prize. His 1969 film Colonel Wolodyjowski was entered into the 6th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1973 he was a member of the jury at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1981 he was a member of the jury at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1985 he was a member of the jury at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival. Hoffman directed Battle of Warsaw 1920 in 2011, the first Polish 3D feature film, stating “The fact that Poles made a film in 3D is not a miracle”. He is the father of early Macintosh development team member Joanna Hoffman.

Jerzy Hoffman ist ein polnischer Filmregisseur und Drehbuchautor. Hoffman wurde als Sohn der jüdischen Eltern Zygmunt Hoffman und Maria Schmelkes geboren. Sein Film „Drei Schritte auf der Erde“ aus dem Jahr 1965 wurde beim 4. Internationalen Filmfestival Moskau eingereicht und gewann dort einen Silberpreis. Sein Film „Oberst Wolodyjowski“ aus dem Jahr 1969 wurde beim 6. Internationalen Filmfestival Moskau eingereicht. 1973 war er Mitglied der Jury beim 8. Internationalen Filmfestival Moskau. 1981 war er Mitglied der Jury beim 12. Internationalen Filmfestival Moskau. 1985 war er Mitglied der Jury beim 14. Internationalen Filmfestival Moskau. Hoffman inszenierte 2011 „1920 - Die letzte Schlacht“, den ersten polnischen 3D-Spielfilm, und erklärte: „Dass Polen einen Film in 3D gemacht haben, ist kein Wunder.“ Er ist der Vater von Joanna Hoffman, Mitglied des Macintosh-Entwicklungsteams.

Reżyser filmów fabularnych i dokumentalnych. Urodził się w rodzinie lekarskiej. W roku 1940 został wywieziony na Syberię. Do Polski wrócił po zakończeniu wojny. Maturę zdał w Bydgoszczy w roku 1950. Jako reżyser debiutował w roku 1955 wspólnie z Edwardem Skórzewskim, z którym przez kolejne lata tworzył tandem reżyserski. Zrealizowali wspólnie 27 filmów dokumentalnych. W latach 1983-87 wiceprezes ZG SFP. W latach 1987-89 członek Komitetu Kinematografii. Kierownik artystyczny Zespołu Filmowego "Zodiak" (1980-97).
