Joaquín Cosío

Joaquin Cosío was born in Nayarit, Mexico. His training as an actor began in 1983 and has continued growing and developing ever since. In 1994, Cosío wrote his first stage play, titled Tomochic: Or the day the world ended, which was awarded the National Literature Prize. Performing in over 50 plays and over 600 live performances, his stage career reached a new milestone in 1999 when he was hand selected to join the National Theater Company. This led Cosío to make the decision to move to Mexico City permanently and focus on becoming a full-time actor. He has been working non-stop ever since as one of Mexico's most respected actors of stage and screen. He made his film debut in 2001 in the film The Blue Room and he has since participated in over 30 feature films and several shorts. Cosío played a multi-episode role in the HBO comedy Eastbound & Down. He played General Medrano, one of the main villains in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, and acted alongside Benicio del Toro in Oliver Stone's gritty thriller, Savages. Cosío appeared in Robert Duvall's A Night in Old Mexico, and in Disney's 2013 filmThe Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.

Joaquín Cosío wurde in Nayarit, Mexiko, geboren. Seine Schauspielausbildung begann 1983 und hat sich seitdem stetig weiterentwickelt. 1994 schrieb Cosío sein erstes Theaterstück mit dem Titel „Tomochic: Oder der Tag, an dem die Welt unterging“, das mit dem Nationalen Literaturpreis ausgezeichnet wurde. Mit über 50 Theaterstücken und mehr als 600 Live-Auftritten erreichte seine Bühnenkarriere 1999 einen neuen Meilenstein, als er persönlich für das Nationale Theaterensemble ausgewählt wurde. Dies veranlasste Cosío, sich dauerhaft in Mexiko-Stadt niederzulassen und sich ganz der Schauspielerei zu widmen. Seitdem arbeitet er ununterbrochen und zählt zu Mexikos angesehensten Bühnen- und Filmschauspielern. Sein Filmdebüt gab er 2001 in „Das blaue Zimmer“, und seither hat er in über 30 Spielfilmen und mehreren Kurzfilmen mitgewirkt. Cosío spielte eine wiederkehrende Rolle in der HBO-Comedyserie „Eastbound & Down“. Er verkörperte General Medrano, einen der Hauptbösewichte im James-Bond-Film „Ein Quantum Trost“, und spielte an der Seite von Benicio del Toro in Oliver Stones düsterem Thriller „Savages“. Joaquín Cosío Osuna es un actor y poeta mexicano. Es más conocido por papeles como Juan en Arráncame la vida (2004), Rubén "Mascarita" en Matando Cabos (2008), el General Medrano en 007: Quantum of Solace (2008), Hassan en Los héroes del norte (2010), El Cochiloco en El infierno (2010), Jesús "Chucho" Juárez en Pastorela (2011), “Don Neto” en Narcos México (2018), el Mayor Mateo Suárez en The Suicide Squad (2021), entre otros. Es en Ciudad Juárez, dónde Cosío inicia su carrera teatral a principios de la década de los 80, ​bajo la dirección de Maestros como Ernesto Ochoa Guillemard y Octavio trías, entre otros. En cine ha trabajado con directores mexicanos tales como David Olguín, Antonio Castro, Luis de Tavira y Luis Estrada Rodríguez. También ha participado en varios doblajes de películas como el oso Ted en la película del mismo nombre. Fue nominado a los Premios Arieles de la Academia Mexicana de Cine en tres ocasiones: en 2005 por su interpretación de la adorable y despiadada "Mascarita" en el éxito de taquilla mexicano Matando Cabos, en 2011 por su trabajo en la película El Infierno para el cual ganó su primer Ariel y también el premio del National Board of Cinema a Mejor Actor. ​ Su más reciente nominación al Ariel fue en 2012 por su trabajo en Pastorela. En 2012, se convirtió en el primer mexicano en recibir el MGM My Favourite Award, que fue creado para honrar a artistas cinematográficos internacionales y con el propósito de garantizar que se reconozcan los grandes logros de los profesionales de la industria cinematográfica internacional.
