Alexandre Astier (born 16 June 1974) is a French writer, director, editor, scriptwriter, humorist, actor and composer. Astier is most known as the creator, director, writer, editor, composer, and lead actor of the French television series Kaamelott, in which he also plays King Arthur. Alexandre Astier was born in Lyon on June 16, 1974, to Joëlle Sevilla and Lionnel Astier, both actors and producers mostly in Lyon's theatre scene. Alexandre Astier studied music at the conservatory and at the American School of Modern Music of Paris. He also studied acting and screenwriting. Four of Astier's seven children have featured in Kaamelott, and both his parents are main characters in the series. His daughters Ariane and Jeanne Astier play respectively Mehben and Mehgan, the daughters of Karadoc and Maevanwi (in the episodes Pupi and Exiles). His son Neil (who also appears as Karadoc and Mevanwi's son in Pupi) plays young Arthur in the season Book V, and in the final scene of Book VI. His son Ethan plays Arthur's dream heir in Book V. Moreover, the mother of his first five children, Anne-Gaëlle Daval, is head of the costume designs on Kaamelott and the short film Dies Irae. In 2012, he plays Johann Sebastian Bach in his humorous show "Que ma joie demeure !" at the theater. In 2014, his comic show "L'Exoconférence" begins at the theater in September. The same year, he appeared in Asterix at the Olympic Games by Frédéric Forestier and Thomas Langmann, and in Home Sweet Home by Didier Le Pêcheur. In 2009, he played the role of the ex-husband of Sophie Marceau in LOL (Laughing Out Loud), another comedy by Lisa Azuelos. In 2012, he presented his first feature film as a director, David et Madame Hansen, in which he played the main protagonist alongside Isabelle Adjani. In 2014, he was the co-director and the screenwriter of Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods. In 2015, he appeared in the film All Three of Us, directed by Kheiron. In 2018, he wrote an original screenplay for a new Asterix movie: Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion. Like Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, he co-directed it with Louis Clichy. Alexandre Astier, né le 16 juin 1974 à Lyon, est un acteur, auteur, réalisateur, scénariste, monteur, producteur, compositeur et musicien français. Il est notamment connu en tant que créateur et interprète principal de la série Kaamelott (2005-2009) et des longs métrages dérivés. Il a également scénarisé et coréalisé les films d'animation Astérix: Le Domaine des dieux (2014) et Astérix: Le Secret de la potion magique (2018). Il est le fils des comédiens Lionnel Astier et Joëlle Sevilla. Sa famille maternelle est d’ascendance italo-espagnole (Casalattico, Carthagène) immigrée à Lyon et sa famille paternelle est originaire du Gévaudan (Chaudeyrac, Châteauneuf-de-Randon). Il est le demi-frère de Simon Astier. Alexandre Astier entre au conservatoire de Lyon à l'âge de six ans où il suit des études de musique au sein des classes à horaires aménagés (où il rencontre notamment Benjamin Biolay). Il y étudie la contrebasse, l'orchestration et les chœurs et finalise sa formation musicale, notamment en jazz et en musique moderne, en intégrant l’American School of Modern Music de Paris (promotion 1989) et tout en faisant parallèlement du théâtre en tant qu’auteur et acteur. Alexandre Astier s’est fait remarquer au début de sa carrière par le public lyonnais grâce à la pièce Le Jour du froment. Il a également joué dans la pièce Nous crions grâce, écrite par Jacques Chambon (à qui il a confié le rôle de Merlin l’Enchanteur dans Kaamelott) et mise en scène par Thierry Chantrel. En 2001, il est coscénariste, acteur, et compositeur des musiques des courts-métrages Soyons sport et Un soupçon fondé sur quelque chose de gras. En 2002, il réalise Dies iræ, un court-métrage de 14 minutes à l’origine de la série Kaamelott et pour lequel il remporte le Prix du public 2003 du festival Off-Courts. Alexandre Astier est devenu célèbre en étant à la fois auteur, réalisateur et acteur de la série télévisée Kaamelott, une série décalée sur les mythiques chevaliers de la Table ronde. Cette série de format court puis classique (trois minutes trente par épisode — sept minutes à partir de 2007 — jusqu’à des épisodes au format américain, 42 minutes, pour le Livre VI et V), a remplacé Caméra Café à partir du mois de janvier 2005 sur la chaîne de télévision française M6.
